Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki Dargah- The meeting of heritage and spirituality

Date

The oldest Dargah of Delhi is situated in Mehrauli. Qutubuddin Bakhtiyar Kaki was one of the most renowned Sufi saints of Delhi. He spread the influence of Sufism, especially the Chishti order. Hazrat Kaki was the disciple of one of the most famous Sufi saints of India, Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti, whose Dargah is in Ajmer. He succeeded Moinuddin Chishti as the spiritual head of the Chishti order. Urs of Hazrat Kaki is celebrated every year in this Dargah. The most famous disciple and spiritual successor of Hazrat Kaki were Fariduddin Ganjshakar also known as Baba Farid.

Sufi saints were always respected and followed by the kings of India. Kings took their help in the problems. We all know the story of how Akbar got his son because of the blessings of Sheikh Salim Chishti and they decorated and made his Dargah. In the same manner, rulers celebrated the urs (death anniversary) of Hazrat Kaki. Rulers from time to time add things near the Dargah in the honor of Hazrat Kaki. Iltutmish built Gandhak ki Baoli, Sher Shah ordered the construction of a grand gateway, Bahadur Shah l made Moti Masjid adjacent to Dargah and Farrukhsiyar constructed a marble screen and a mosque near the Dargah. One must visit this place at least once in their life and should feel the energy and never miss a chance to hear qawwali at the Dargah.
