Chhath is an ancient Hindu Vedic festival historically native to the Indian subcontinent, specifically the Indian states of Bihar and Jharkhand and the southern parts of Nepal. Devotees dedicate their prayers to the Hindu Sun God, Surya Dev. Women taking part in Chhath Puja observe a fast and do not even consume water.
