Taking a Glimpse at Veteran Actress Sharmila Tagore’s Cinematic Journey

Date

The murals of the Rail Museum in New Delhi pay homage to the indispensable use of trains in our film industry. An array of murals adorn the walls of the Museum. One of these murals is the dreamy train sequence from Sharmila Tagore and Rajesh Khanna starrer ‘Aradhana’

With cinematic shots of the Darjeeling toy train, Rajesh Khanna (voiced by Kishore Kumar) breaks into the iconic and cult-favourite song, ‘Mere Sapno ki Rani’ as he chases the train boarded by Sharmila Tagore in his jeep.

Sharmila Tagore is widely known for her work in Hindi and Bengali cinema and is also a recipient of Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour. She married the former captain of the Indian cricket team and the Nawab of Pataudi, Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, in 1968.   Making her debut at the mere age of 14, her contribution to Indian cinema has remained essential.

With the veteran actress turning another year old today, people still continue to cherish the strong and impressionable characters she has depicted on screen.
