Safety, Speed, Reliability: The Motto Behind the Delhi Metro Logo

Date

The Delhi Metro logo is now one of the widely recognisable symbols by the masses in the capital. The lifeline of the transport system in Delhi and NCR -Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) got established in 1995. This was envisioned by Madan Lal Khurana and came.to reality under the aegis of Sheila Dixit and leadership of metro man S. Sreedharan. The official operation began on December 25th,2002.

In these nearly two decades, the network has grown from an initial 8.2 km from Shahdara to Tis Hazari on the Red Line with just six stations, to 390 km with 285 stations (including the Noida-Greater Noida Metro Corridor and Rapid Metro, Gurgaon)

The bright logo with the vibrant red railway track inside a bright red circle is significantly a marker of the watchwords of Delhi Metro- safety, speed and reliability. The parallel lines are the tracks, but the interconnecting line represents speed. Unlike other institutions where the logos are decided by a nationwide competition or by providing tender to advertising agencies, DMRC’s logo was developed and finalized in-house. It is a graphic depiction of a rail network inside a tunnel and truly represents the mobility and dynamism aspect of the service that the metro provides.
