Brought into India from Baghdad during the golden era of the Mughal Sultanate, Jama Masjid in Old Delhi houses some of the rarest relics of the Prophet. A part of Mughal inheritance and thus the ruling king treasury, these relics used to remain with the emperors until Shah Jahan, after the foundation of Shahjahanabad, removed the sacred relics from his treasury and placed them at Jama Masjid. He assigned the task of its protection to Hussaini Syed and to date, his progeny holds the responsibility of safeguarding these holy relics.
