National Energy Conservation Day is celebrated every year by people all over India on the 14th of December globally to highlight the importance of energy consumption and its use in our day-to-day life, its scarcity and its impact on the sustainability of global ecosystems. The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is a constitutional body that comes under the Government of India and helps in the development of policies and strategies in order to reduce energy use. BEE as an agency was established in March 2002 and operates under the jurisdiction of the Government of India after the formulation of the Energy Conservation Act in India in 2001. The theme for this year is “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav: Cleaner Planet”.
On this energy conservation day, we are here to take you to a place that is solely dedicated to the purpose of a cleaner, greener and safer environment just a few kilometres from the capital. Rajiv Gandhi Renewable Energy Park (RGREP) is quite “one of a kind” of a place. Situated in sector-29 of Gurugram, it is a park offering a variety of renewable energy, conservation, efficiency and climate change-related activities for kids as well as adults. The regular visitors enjoy solar equipment here and as for the kids, they look forward to having car races. The park is open throughout the week except for Monday.
If you want to take out your environmental friendly ventures at the level of your lovely movies-there are theme-based movie screenings too, in a theatre with a capacity of holding around 60 people. These movies look at the various aspects concerned with the environment-be it conservation of ecosystem or climate or sustainable agricultural practices.
If you are tired after roaming around the park, the solar cafe run by Advit foundation will give you the perfect opportunity to lay your hand on cooking food -that too not in the conventional methods of cooking but by using clean energy promoting equipment such as solar cookers. The park also conducts workshops on solar cooking to make you swear by the green movement.
Have you ever heard about Green Birthdays? The park organises birthday parties for children of 5 years up to 15 years. Just like any other place, they have their birthday packages too that include a movie screening, activities like -jumping on “sound drums”, painting terracotta pots (and getting to take them home) and nature walks to name a few. And again the solar cafe offers you a healthy snack party.
