Inaugurated on the 29th of January, 2010, the Kingdom of Dreams is truly a sight to behold. As India’s very first live entertainment and theatre complex, it does not disappoint. Situated in Sector 29, Gurgaon, it is spread over a massive area of 6 acres and cost a mind blowing two billion rupees to build. Rs.2,000,000,000. That’s a lot of zeros. But this money was not put to waste. The company running the show is the Great Indian Nautanki Company, a joint venture between Wizcraft and Apra group.
The complex contains two theatres, those being the Nautanki Mahal and Showshaa Theatre. Designed like a palace, with a staggering capacity of 835 seats, the Nautanki Mahal is a world class theatre with a hydraulic stage, automated fly bars and a matrix sound system. Showshaa is the little one but still seats 350 people. Currently, at Nautanki Mahal, they have two on going musicals.
The first being Zangoora – the Gypsy prince, which is a top of the line Bollywood musical. A pure visual delight, a must watch for the extravagant stage performances. It was the first show to be performed here. The second is Jhumroo, a musical comedy themed around the life and works of Kishore Kumar. So, if you crave for some retro love, this is it. Showshaa usually has multiple theatre productions, mostly based on Indian mythology.
Apart from the plays, this ginormous establishment as a section called the Culture Gully. Covering over 100,000 square feet, this place contains themed restaurants and live kitchens from 14 different states. Talk about being spoilt for choice. For the true Bollywood feel, there is the IIFA Buzz Lounge, that has a huge collection of Bollywood memorabilia. Get Bollywooed. For more information check out their website
