Delhi is the house of thousands of libraries. In all of the one of the or, we can say the best library is Nehru Memorial Museum and Library. Those research scholars who work on modern and contemporary India find it a must to visit this library. Records and resources are available in more than 21 Indian languages. It was established in the memory of Jawaharlal Nehru. The library is situated in the official residence of the first Prime Minister of India. On your visit, you will find the four constituents which are Nehru Museum, library on modern India, a centre for contemporary studies and Nehru Planetarium.

HOW TO BECOME A MEMBER

The library was established especially for research scholars. It is not meant for the general public. Membership of also offered to researchers only. Students of M.A. final year (specialization in modern history), M. Phil, PhD scholars, and professors can get the membership. To obtain membership recommendation or letter of introduction is needed from the head of Department/Institution or registrar of University. In the form as well you have to write your topic of research. This form with two passport size photographs and a membership fee has to be submitted on the counter to get a membership.

MEMBERSHIP FEES

This is not a normal or general public type library. It consists of various records, letters, reports, research, etc. of modern India. Thus the library did not issue books. Resources can be used for references within the library premises only. Though one can reserve 1 book for 3 days to use in the library. Scholars are not allowed to keep more than 5 books on the Reading table. Indians,  NRIs and SAARC Countries students have to pay Rs. 200 for one week, Rs. 500 for two months and Rs. 1000 for a year. While foreigners have to pay Rs. 500 for a week, Rs. 1000 for two months and Rs. 5000 for a year. 

LOCATION AND TIMINGS

It is established as an autonomous institution by the Government of India. At present, it is run and supervised by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. The library is situated in Teen Murti House. The address of the library is Teen Murti Bhavan, Teen Murti Marg, New Delhi. The nearest metro station is Lok Kalyan Marg. It remains open throughout the year except for Sundays and Gazetted Holidays. From Monday to Friday one can avail the services between 9 AM to 8 PM. On Saturdays, the library remains open from 9 AM to 5:30 PM.
