The Fast And The Furious: Heritage Transport Museum in Gurgaon
The Heritage Transportation Trust was created because of the passion of its founders to collect rare and unique objects. More specifically they were interested in all things to do with transportation. That means wheels are the deal. The company is registered under the Indian Trust Act (1882) as a non-profit organisation.
The whole idea behind it was to create and institution that would not only collect but also showcase, document and educate the public. The initial collection was garnered over a period of twenty years, and it was then that the Heritage Transport Museum was finally established as the country's first comprehensive transport museum.
Spread over a massive are of 3 acres, the building has a total of 90,000 square feet, that has been spread over four floors. These contain exhibition galleries, library, reference centre, conference room, mini auditorium, a memorabilia shop and a restaurant.
Each floor of the museum has been used to give the public a different experience. The ground floor showcased the evolution of automobiles in India. They have around 75 vintage cars on display here. The First floor has exhibitions on pre-mechanised vehicles,
railways and heavy transport like buses and trucks. The Second floor shows the history of Aviation in India, Automobile toys and collectables, history of two-wheelers in India and also the history of Maritime transport. The Third floor has a contemporary art gallery, the conference room, the library and research centre. So, if you are a car guy or simply interested in the history of automobiles in India, then this museum will have you falling love all over again.
