In a press conference address by CM Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday, the lockdown in Delhi has been extended till the 17th of May keeping in mind the brutal COVID wave that engulfs the city.
He acknowledged that the previous lockdown has been a useful measure leading to a drop in fatality rate due to COVID. According to the CM, the government has also used this time to improve medical infrastructure with a focus on increasing the number of beds. The state government has been continuously in conversation with the Central government to enhance the supply of oxygen for the city of Delhi.
Though there is a fall in the number of cases, the lockdown has been extended till 17th May, 5 am keeping in mind the disastrous nature of the second wave.
The Chief Minister also acknowledged the issue of vaccine shortage in Delhi and appealed to the centre to enhance Delhi’s supply of vaccine dosage.
During the extended lockdown:
- Metros will be shut.
- Weddings or other ceremonies held at public halls/banquet halls/ hotels will be absolutely prohibited. Such ceremonies should only be allowed inside homes with a maximum capacity of 20 people.
- Movements of individuals and private vehicles will be strictly kept a check on to ensure compliance with curfew regulations.
- Only essential services will be allowed to operate.
- E-passes issued for essential service workers shall be valid to operate in curfew.
In addition to Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana have also extended their lockdown till the 17th of May.
