Delhi’s name

Have you ever wondered that where does the name ‘Delhi’ comes from??
The legend goes back to 1st century BCE when a king named Raja Dhilu ruled this land and apparently the name Dehli. The names that followed are just the corrupted forms of this earlier name.

Red Fort or White?

Yes, you read it right!! The Qila-e-Mubarak, as it was previously known, was initially built of limestone and was white in colour.
In the mid of 19th century, it was painted red by the British to stop the corrosion of the stone and was renamed Red Fort.

Lotus temple, which was built in 1986, is a prominent tourist and local attraction in Delhi.

A Toilet Museum

Delhi houses one of the most bizarre museums, Museum of Toilets called the Sulabh International Museum. The Museum showcases the evolution of toilets and the idea of sanitation and hygiene through history. Time magazine mentioned it as one of the weirdest museums among the “10 museums around the world that are anything but mundane”.

The spice market in Old Delhi’s Khari Baoli is Asia’s largest spice market! It sells a huge variety of spices, herbs, nuts and food products.

Ashokan Pillars

Delhi houses two Ashokan Pillars, one in Ferozshah Kotla, and the other at the Delhi Ridge, opposite Bara Hindu Rao Hospital. The pillars were transported from their original sites to Delhi under the reign of Feroz Shah Tughlaq of the Tughlaq Dynasty.
