‘Hunar Haat’, which is organised every year by the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, was inaugurated by the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday, 21st Feb, though the event began on 20th. In his speech, Mr. Singh said that every region of the country has astounding talent and every artisan is an ‘Ustad’ of his art. The Hunar Haat has been significantly contributing in the economy of the country and towards the building of an ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’, he added. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of State (independent charge) for Ports, Shipping and Waterways was the chief guest while Loksabha MP Meenakshi Lekhi was the guest of honour.

This year it is the 26th edition of ‘Hunar Haat’ and its theme is ‘Vocal for Local’ , which will bring together more than 600 local craftsmen and artisans, including women from all over the country, portraying our cultural mosaic. Exquisite indigenous handmade products such as dry flowers, pashmina shawl, blue pottery, applique work, chanderi silk, Rajasthani jewellery etc. will be showcased and sold under one roof, said the Minority Affairs Minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi.

There is a ‘Bawarchikhana‘ section where the visitors can enjoy regional delicacies from every part of the country. Besides this, there are various cultural programmes for the people to enjoy which will be presented by various artists such as Nizami brothers, Kailash Kher etc.

The Hunar Haat is a perfect platform for providing employment opportunities to these native artists under ‘ Upgrading the Skills and Training in Traditional Arts/Crafts for Development (USTAAD). The government is planning to increase the turn over of rural industries by taking it from approximately Rs. 80,000 crores to Rs. 5 lakh crores within the next 2-3 years. The Union Ministry of Minority Affairs has also announced its goal of providing work opportunities to about 7,50,000 craftsmen and artisans in 2022 by organising 75 ‘Hunar Haats’ on the occasion of the completion of country’s 75 years of independence.
