East Delhi’s Development Thoroughfare: Vikas Marg

Date

The Rajpath is the thoroughfare through which the Republic Day parade passes. Apart from this, there is another Rajpath. The development road of East Delhi is also now called Rajpath by some government officials and political leaders due to its increasing importance. It is the lifeline of East Delhi. There is a special relationship between Vikas Marg and the bridge over the Yamuna. The bridge became operational in 1975. Since then, the development of this path has been on the mark.

Yamunapar’s Bank Street

Now you can consider Vikas Marg as Bank Street also. Here you will find branches and ATMs of every government and private bank. Vikas Marg has become the commercial hub of East Delhi. And many coaching centres have been established here for those preparing for the Chartered Accountant (CA) exam. Every day hundreds of children come here for coaching.

Once upon a time, there was a trail

If we talk about till 1980, then Vikas Marg was a small road or say a footpath. The work of its development and widening was carried out under the supervision of Jagmohan, the then Lieutenant Governor of Delhi and Harkishan Lal Bhagat, an umbrella leader of East Delhi. The houses adjacent to it were demolished for its widening. And after the 80s, when Swasthya Vihar, Preet Vihar, Nirman Vihar etc. were built on Vikas Marg, then Vikas Marg also developed.
