Delhi to have Separate Education Board from this year: CM

During the presentation of Annual Budget of 2020, the Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had announced the putting aside of Rs.62 crores for setting up a different state education board.

Following this, a new announcement was made on Saturday, 6th March by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, reaffirming the setting up of an Education Board for Delhi. Initially some 21-22 schools will be de-affiliated from the Central Board of Secondary Education and associated with the Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE). Within the course of the next 4-5 years, all 2700 schools will be affiliated to the Delhi Board, according to reports.

The schools would be brought under the new Board only after negotiations with the staff, principal and parents.The CM also added that the State Board will be target education that will produce kattar deshbhakts (staunch patriots) who can carry out their duties for the society and country in an altruistic manner, without having to depend on the job sector for employment.

“Our children are the future of this country. We need to prepare such children who can carry the responsibility of every sphere of the country in coming times, be it science, technology, business, trade, politics or society… Secondly, they need to be good people… ready to break down all walls and see each other as humans… Thirdly… this board will prepare such a curriculum which will teach children to stand on their feet so that when they are done with their education, their employment will be with
themselves,” said the Chief Minister.


The principal advisor to the Directorate of Education, Shailendra Sharma said that the syllabus recommendations up till 8th standard are under consideration and soon the work would start on the curriculums of higher classes. The new board will assess the children continuously and will pay more attention on practical application of acquired knowledge.

The governing body of DBSE will be headed by Mr. Manish Sisodia and executive body will also be created for the daily working, chaired by a CEO. Both these bodies will be constituted by experts from educational and industrial sectors as well as bureaucrats. It was also announced that the board will be of international standards and support will be sought from various global bodies.
