Amba Sanyal – An Indian Theater Artist and Costume Designer
There are theatre artists who wouldn’t have made big in Bollywood, but they are definitely remembered when it comes to Theatre. Amba Sanyal, was born in 1945 in New Delhi. Her father B. C. Sanyal was a renowned painter and sculptor and her mother Snehalata Sanyal was an actress and dance. Amba Sanyal has inherited her creative genes from parents. She is a costume designer as well as theatre artists. She spent her childhood in Delhi. She graduated from Delhi College of Art and later pursued her interests at Paris. Having acted in plays like Amal Allana, Sheila Bhatia, Habib Tanvir and Ebrahim Alkazi, she has set a benchmark in the theatre industry. Being a costume designer, she has designed costumes for many productions of National School of Drama. She received Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for best costume design in the year 2008. She also has a special appearance in the movie Ship of Theseus which was directed by Anand Gandhi. Her keen interest and deep knowledge about the fabrics, the color combination and the designs has earned her a name in the costume design industry. She is married to K.T. Ravindran. He is the dean of school of planning and Architecture in New Delhi.
