Delhi becomes the first city in India to have all transport-related services online

On 11th August 2021, a symbolic move was taken by the Delhi CM by locking the IP Depot RTO office. The government has announced that more than 90% of services (33 out of 35) will now be online. This was done to do away with long queues, middlemen and brokers making it a “faceless” and corruption-free process.

Which RTO offices have been shut down?

Four zonal offices– Sarai Kale Khan, IP Depot, Vasant Vihar, and Janakpuri– have been shut down. The physical services of these RTO offices will be looked over by MLOs of the South zone, Raja Garden and Dwarka respectively.

What all services are online now?

Apart from the driving test and vehicle fitness test, all application processes will now be conducted online. Verification will be done through Aadhar Card and the linked mobile number.

I don’t want to share my Aadhar Card details. Is there an alternative?

Yes. You can provide other legible documents for verification keeping in purview the guidelines made public by the Transport Department.

How is this initiative inclusive? What about those who are not tech-savvy?

People who need assistance in the application process can call 1076. this helpline has been set up by the Delhi government to provide doorstep assistance. Additionally, the four zonal offices which were shut down will operate as facilitation centres for those who do not have access to a computer.

How will I receive my documents?

Your documents will be sent to you via speed post. Additionally, a link would be provided to you via SMS for online access to your documents.
