In the middle of the CoVid crisis in Delhi, Lakshmi Bai College of Delhi University has started a 100-bed isolation centre in its campus. The college Principal, Pratyush Vatsala said that the centre will be a tribute in the memory of Ms. Sangita Sharma, one of the most loved teachers of the college who passed away due to covid-related complications.
The Centre is only open to patients with mild symptoms and are below 70 years of age. This is because there is no ICU facility available, however they do have arranged for the oxygen supplies.
“I thought, when there is infrastructure in place built with public funds, why not use it for people who are struggling for facilities. For almost a year, the educational institutions have been closed. At least if patients with mild and moderate symptoms can be admitted here, a lot of pressure can be reduced from the hospitals,” the Principal said. The centre is supported by some NGOs and the locals of Ashok Vihar.
Other colleges of the University such as Deen Dayal Upadhyaya College are also planning to set up a covid isolation centre with a capacity of 180 beds in their hostel block at Dwarka.
