Whenever people talk about food in Old Delhi, they are reminded of streets laden with kebab shops and degchis full of Nihari and Biryani. People seldomly forget the rich vegetarian food culture introduced and gracefully carried on by the generations of Hindu populations settled in Old Delhi. In our food walk, Delhipedia with Sadaf Hussain explores the hidden culinary history of Old Delhi and brings to you some of the choicest delicacies Purani Dilli has to offer.
What’s On The Menu?
The Walk’s menu consists of vegetarian food and beverages, including chai and pappe, an age-old favourite of all Delhi citizens, and some lip-smacking savoury items like Nagori, Kachori, Chole Kulche and much more. Every meal is incomplete without Old Delhi’s winter speciality Daulat ki Chaat and the legendary fresh fruit ice-cream of Chandni Chowk.
Bonus!
Our food walk just doesn’t serve delicacies but also the stories and histories behind them on a silver platter for you! We will not just send you back with a stomach full of food, but also a lot of stories about the culture and food of Old Delhi. Additionally, we shall be exploring the lanes of Old Delhi generationally owned by the thriving Jain and Baniya communities of Old Delhi and witness structures that beautifully signify the rich Ganga-Jamuni tehzeeb of Shahjahanabad.
