Joseph Stein Lane

The historic importance of the Lodi Gardens is well known to everyone. The roads around this place also have very interesting and worth knowing stories to tell. When anyone tries to reach Lodhi Garden from Max Mueller Marg, then that person has to walk on Joseph Stein Lane. The full name of this person was Joseph Allen Stein. He was an American architect and this is the only road in Delhi that is named after an architect. He has designed many buildings in this area, thus at times, it came to be known as ‘Steinabad’. His architectural planning and designs can be seen in especially two buildings of this area, The Ford Foundation headquarters and the India International Center. His buildings are worthy of conservation and the best architectural construction after independence.

K.K. Birla Lane

The road from Lodhi garden to Max Mueller Marg is known as K.K.Birla Lane. This road was named after a famous Indian industrialist Krishna Kumar Birla in 2010. The role of the Birla Group of Industries is known to everyone. Birla’s were the major financiers of the Congress party before the independence of India. K.K. Birla became the MP in Rajya Sabha for the first time under the leadership of Indira Gandhi. He served as MP for three terms. His contribution to the development and public sphere of India is remarkable. In his memory and Honor, the former Chief Minister of Delhi named this road after him in April 2010.

Amrita Shergil Marg

This road goes along the Lodhi Garden and intersects Lodhi Marg. It was named after famous Indian-Hungarian painter Amrita Sher-Gill after India gained independence. Earlier it was known as Ratendone Marg. The Marquis of Ratendone was the son of Lady Willingdon, who is famous for the redevelopment of Lodhi Garden. Amrita was the greatest women artist of the 20th century and a pioneer of Indian modern art. Her paintings are so good and mesmerizing, the Government of India declared her work as the National Art Treasure. Her work can be seen in the National Gallery of Modern Arts.
